As an arts advocate, it is important to be informed and have the right tools in order to be effective. Below you will find variety of tools to use including a fact sheet for handy reference, a phone script for calling your elected officials, and templates and examples to allow you to create your unique message.

Talking Points
§ The Arts are an economic engine. The arts create jobs and produce tax revenue. A strong arts sector is an economic asset that stimulates business activity, attracts tourism revenue, retains high quality work force and stabilizes property values.
§ Arts Education is important. The Arts encourage creativity, problem-solving and lateral thinking which help create the rounded education that will give students the best opportunities to succeed in the workplace. Students who study arts or music enjoy better SAT scores.
§ The Arts attract tourism. The continued increase in cultural tourism has meant millions of dollars for the local economy and helps to put the region on the map. (see Frommer’s feature of Kansas City as a top destination 2012)
§ The Arts create engagement and vitality within the community. The Arts connect people to their community and neighborhood, making for safer environments and more responsible community members.
§ The Arts foster long-term prosperity. The Arts are fundamental to our humanity, they ennoble and inspire us and should be included not as a privilege, but as a cornerstone of any healthy and prosperous community.

§ In the US, non-profit arts organizations generate over $166 billion in economic activity annually.
§ In Missouri, non-profit arts and culture organizations generate $1.1billion in economic activity each year.
§ In Kansas non-profit arts and cultural sector is a $153.5 million industry, supporting over 37,000 jobs in the creative arts industry.
§ Arts and culture organizations produce $279 million in economic impact for the Kansas City Metropolitan region.
§ 4.4 million arts attendees spent $85.6 million in services and businesses outside of admission costs or souvenirs and gifts (i.e. transportation, lodging, meals/refreshments)

Take Action Now!
Visit our Legislative Action Center, use it for contacting your officials at the federal, state and local levels. It is the easiest and most effective way to advocate and only takes two minutes to make your voice heard by writing a letter or calling your elected officials. A united voice is stronger than one.
