Kansas City's 2nd annual Maker Faire is just weeks away! Celebrating the things that people create themselves - from new technology and electronic gizmos to urban farming and art, Maker Faire is quickly becoming a place where inventors, entrepreneurs, and artists unite. According to the MakerFaire.com web site, Kansas City's 2012 event has been elevated from its "mini" maker faire status to one of the top four in the country, alongside Detroit!

Keeping the spirit of making alive all year long is Make:KC and the Metropolitan Community College "Fab Lab." Part of the college's Business and Technology Center, the Fab Lab provides equipment and space for makers throughout the community.

Please join Vince Thompson and Jeff Rosenblatt as they describe how these two important entities help challenge, inspire, and support the visionaries who create our future.

 Innovation in Medicine

Creativity and innovation influence more than the arts . . . they are as crucial to medicine as technical knowledge. The new Center for Pediatric Genomic Medicine at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics, headed by Stephen Kingsmore, MD, is an example of creativity at work in the scientific community in Kansas City. The center’s goal is to transform children’s medicine by genomic interpretation.

Join us to meet Kingsmore, an internationally-recognized expert in pediatric genomics, and learn about the incredible strides in medical research and innovation being made right here in our community. Among them is a test that can identify genomic information associated with some 600 severe childhood illnesses. Revolutionary as this test may seem, the center’s leadership and faculty believe it is only the beginning of what is possible.

The Inspired World of Christopher Elbow

Like most creative professionals, Christopher Elbow likes to experiment with different materials. But while some artists dabble in bronze, or oils, or clay, Christopher chooses things like 100% Venezuelan bean chocolate, French lavender and Grand Marnier.

This is the inspired world of Christopher Elbow. Where modern culinary artistry meets traditional hand craftsmanship. Where the art of chocolate is expressed in a single, beautiful, decadent piece that’s hand-created one at a time.

For the past 5 years, the company has provided a feast for the senses, making each production a special event.
