Details for Artists

Now Showing is designed to foster partnerships between individual artists and Arts Council business investor companies by providing opportunities for artists to display their work in corporate settings. The program introduces employees to metro-area artists, exposes artists to new audiences, and adds an element of inspiration and creativity to local businesses.

Eligibility Requirements

Visual artists who reside in the Kansas City metropolitan area are invited to submit proposals to participate in Now Showing, a program of the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City. The Arts Council will review all artist submissions. The Arts Council and Now Showing business participants reserve the right to exclude works containing offensive depictions, nudity, profanity, illegal activities, depiction of religious subject matter or negative depictions of social, ethnic, or political groups or individuals.

  • Now Showing is open to all visual artists residing in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
  • Eligible media include oil painting, watercolor, pastel, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, photography, multi-dimensional, and fine crafts such as clay, fabric, metal, glass, and wood.  No work created by kits is accepted.
  • All artwork submitted must be original, owned by, and produced or created by the artist submitting the proposal.
  • Artwork under copyright by another entity or artwork that violates any legal statutes will not be considered and should not be submitted.
  • All materials must be mounted and/or framed and ready for installation.

Specifications

Participating companies have access to all artist portfolios. Each selected artist will be notified by the Arts Council and given a proposed exhibition schedule. Once the schedule is agreed upon, the participating company will contact the artist directly and discuss all details of the exhibition. Often times the company will ask the artist to view the space ahead of time so that the correct number and type of work can be prepared.

The artist is responsible for the installation and de-installation of their own work and exhibitions will be scheduled for a 90-day period, or as otherwise agreed upon by the participating business and the selected artist. Artists are encouraged to provide the participating company with a price sheet of available work and exhibit labels. All sales inquiries are made directly to the artist; neither the participating company nor the Arts Council receives a commission for the sale of your artwork.

After the exhibition period, the Arts Council will issue each artist an honorarium of $125 as appreciation for their participation in the Now Showing program.
